I just noticed that Google AdSense now has the option to show ads in websites that would previously have been inaccessible due to the page requiring the user to login (authenticate themselves as a legitimate user). For many marketers who run restricted access membership sites it was a pain because we couldn’t put adsense ads in there due to the fact that the spider was unable to check the content and provide relevant ads.
I’m not entirely sure how old this feature is as I’ve only just noticed it myself. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like if you haven’t seen it already:
If you are not entirely comfortable with HTML forms some of the options might look a bit alien to you.
The authentication method is how the form sends the data to the server or database if you are using a php script then 9/10 times you would use the POST method. The GET and .HTACCESS methods are very rare nowadays.
The parameters boxes refer to the names given to the Username and password fields. You will need to check your HTML code to find out this information. It is also very likely that you will need to create a specific account for the Google spider to login.
I have to say, this new feature (if it is new) from Google AdSense will be exceptionally helpful to anyone that runs a private members only site. Particularly private forums where only registered members can view the forum. It allows you to add your AdSense code and display relevant ads without having to open up your forum to the public.
Well done Google, this is an tremendous innovation!
